Chin rash baby has during the first year of life is commonly harmless and within few weeks, the rash will eventually go away on its own. As parents, you might expect to see rash on your baby’s chin due to various causes. Here are some types of rash found on baby’s chin.
The first type of chin rash baby might get is dribble or drool rash. Drool rash is the most common rash found on baby’s chin since the main cause of the rash is baby’s drool. When baby is drooling a lot, baby experiences redness and irritation on the face especially around mouth, chin, cheeks and sometimes neck. Baby’s saliva that continuously affects the delicate and sensitive skin of baby makes friction and irritation. The condition is getting worse while baby is teething. Gently clean the rash with mild soap and water by tapping it out with soft washcloth. You can also apply lubricant and anti bacterial barrier too as a treatment. If the rash is not treated well, it may lead to another bad rash called impetigo.
Impetigo is another types of chin rash baby has due to infected drool rash. Impetigo is a contagious bacterial infection that causes red, itchy sores. Occasionally, it occurs as honey or yellow colored crusting on the outer layer of the rash and there is blistering sometimes. You need to treat the rash with antibiotics.
Another type of chin rash is allergic reactions. The rash is identified as red, flat or raised sores. Baby can have allergic reactions due to some irritant like chemicals product, offensive food type if baby starts eating solid food or caused by type of medicines. You need to find the cause of the allergy to treat the rash. Meanwhile to soothe the symptoms of allergic reaction you can apply cortisone creams, antihistamines, or other soothing lotions that prescribed by your baby pediatrician. However, a doctor consultation is needed to treat the rash.
